Castletown is a heritage harbour with both outer and inner drying harbours. It serves as a hub for various maritime activities, including inshore fishing vessels, local and visiting pleasure craft, and occasional coasters (small cargo vessels).
In the inner harbour, there is a narrow swing bridge that limits the size of cargo vessels that can be accommodated. The Umber Quay within the inner harbour has a maximum capacity for vessels measuring up to 55 meters in length, 8.2 meters in beam (width), and with a draft of up to 3.5 meters at MHWS or 2.6 meters at MHWN. Vessels that can take the hard ground may also be accommodated.
